Hello, my name is Dewight Braxton Jr.

My life started off somewhat different from most artist. I grew up in Detroit, Michigan and loved performing and singing, but I actually focused more of my life on sports and schooling. I played football and studied engineering from high school at Lewis Cass Technical High School all the way to college at Ferris State University, where I received my associates in Manufacturing Technology. However, this is not where the story ends. While I played football and studied engineering, I always felt like something was missing.

I grew up fascinated by the arts. I always loved poetry, singing and dancing since I grew up in a Baptist church. I can honestly say I still got to let my creative juices flow. However, it wasn't until I started theatre and improv as a pastime at Ferris State that I found my niche. I felt complete finally but overwhelmed by theater, football and engineering. Something had to change. First it was football that dropped, then engineering after I earned the degree. Until only my love for theatre remained. I finally realized I loved playing football for fun, but I had no real passion to continue, and I excelled at engineering but it was not what I wanted to do. How do I fulfill my thirst for theatre?

That's when I transferred to Wayne State University and the rest is history. Not only did I quench my thirst, but Wayne also taught me how to embrace and use my other talents. I use my athletic ability when I act and dance and I also use my degree to build stages. Who would've thought I could incorporate all of these!
